Field Guide Term:
Software as a Service (SaaS)

Usually abbreviated to SaaS, Software as a Service is a third-party distribution model for software. Traditionally, software needs to be downloaded to be used, but SaaS is a form of cloud computing that allows the software to be used through either purchasing a license or a subscription-based service. Advantages of SaaS include consistent software updates, no hardware upgrades, accessibility for all internet users, and is also cheaper for both single users and businesses.
